Kadriorg Palace is a beautiful Baroque building where you can enjoy art exhibitions.
The construction of the Kadriorg Palace was initiated by Tsar Peter the Great of Russia in 1718. The palace and park ensemble was named Kadriorg (in German Catharinenthal, in Russian Екатериненталь) in honour of his wife Catherine I.
Designed by the Italian architect Nicola Michetti, the palace’s ornate main hall is one of the most exquisite examples of Baroque architecture in Northern Europe.
The palace in Kadriorg was an imperial summer residence of the Russian rulers and most of them visited it. In the 1920s the place served as the main building of the Art Museum of Estonia, and in the Soviet occupation times in 1946–1991.
In the 1930s, it was the residence of the Head of State of the Republic of Estonia.
In 2000, the palace re-opened as the Kadriorg Art Museum, which displays the largest collection of old Western European and Russian art in Estonia.
